This calculator allows you to estimate the CO₂ equivalent (in tonnes) for the most commonly used refrigerants.
For the selected refrigerant, enter the amount contained in your equipment in the field “Quantity of refrigerant in kg.” The equivalent CO₂ amount will be calculated in the next column, along with the required leak check frequency.
The CO₂ equivalent is calculated using GWP (Global Warming Potential) values provided in EU Regulation 2024/573 on fluorinated greenhouse gases. These values for partially fluorinated hydrocarbons (HFCs) are based on the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report.
You may also use this calculator to estimate CO₂ emissions from refrigerant leaks. In that case, enter the quantity of leaked refrigerant (kg) into the input field. The resulting column will show the corresponding CO₂ emissions. Please be aware that for this purpose, updated GWP values from the IPCC Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports are available and may be more appropriate.
